A Wednesday night at Flannery's (an Irish Pub) we have taken as our own. Some people even speak English there! Originally it was going to be Fridays at Flannery's, but that has since turned into Tuesdays at Flannery's and Wednesdays at Flannery's...anyway, you get the idea (I swear we're not actually big boozers, the language is just so comforting!).
Hillary and I smiling now that we had made it (more or less) to the top and were beginning our gentle descent. More than that, we were deeply proud of the beautiful metaphor we (she) had created: Skiiing, like learning the french language, requires a lot of climbing uphill, and at times it seems there is no end in sight, but then you reach the top and it gradually gets easier. Sure you may continue to fall every now and again, but that's progress you're making my friend, that's progress...(I'll give you a minute for reflection...) :)

Me in my oh-so-fashionable ski get-up! It was a winter wonderland I tell you, so pretty...

One of my host brothers (they are all so entertaining) and the back of my host father. They were all very patient and helpful when teaching me and Hillary how to ski!

My host mom (and behind her my friend Hillary, in the program with me) skiing her heart out!

A typical meal with our UPS group and Nathalie. This restaurant was one of my favorites and is just a few blocks from the Centre Condorcet (an apartment they rent for our group to hang out in and where we have weekly meetings with Nathalie). The entire place was like one great cave, it was absolutely stunning! I know my handy camera work makes it a little difficult to see, but I was trying to be subtle:)

So I realize this video is of nothing in particular, but it beat any picture I had of the mountains. We were in Jura (a small town) which is just west of the Swiss border (my host mom showed me on the map and it is only another 30 minutes or so by car to the border, I think:) I like to tell people we were skiing in the Alps, which technically we were, it just happens to be the western most edge. Still counts!

  3. Guess you're spending too much time at Flannery's to have time to post new info to your blog! :)Perhaps you could designate Thursday night as blog night (unless Thursday's have also become Flannery night.) An Irish pub? I thought you were in France... All kidding aside, we'd love to see more pics and videos! Maybe some more of your host family, your school, all your buddies, and hear what you've been up to! Hope all is going well and you're not homesick! Love, Nan and Tess
